Hi, my name is Fiona Stimpson, and I am the Chair of Governors at a Horley Infants School. I was appointed in 2012 as a Community Governor and after 5 years, I am still learning what it is to be a Governor; not having been in school for a very long time and not having children of my own, I have been out of touch with the schooling world!
I am also a Governor at Oakwood School and the training that I have received for both schools, has helped me to understand and deal with the many acronyms that schools use.
I have lived in Horley for 19 years since I became the proprietor of Rosemead Guest House. My day job involves welcoming people from all over the world into my home, cooking them breakfast, and transferring them to Gatwick to catch flights to holiday destinations or flights home for those who have holidayed in the UK!
As a break from the frenetic day to day running of a B&B, I enjoy my evenings attending Governor meetings where I have been made to feel very welcome and hopefully use my experience of life and business to question and support the teachers and fellow governors, and not be afraid to ask challenging questions!
I am also a Town Councillor for Horley and Vice Chair the Horley & District Chamber of Commerce. I see these positions as a means of working with the schools and local organisations to bring people together in Horley for such events like the Horley Carnival, St George’s Day, etc.
In my little bit of spare time in the day I like to take my dogs for a walk around the many parks and open spaces in the surrounding countryside, where despite living next door to an airport, it can be surprisingly quiet!
